How to Set Up a Role Address (info@, sales@)
Role addresses (info@, sales@, support@) look professional and let several people share an inbox. You can make them full mailboxes or simple forwarders.
Step-by-step
- Decide mailbox or forwarder. A mailbox stores mail and can be shared; a forwarder simply sends to one or more real people.
- For a mailbox, create the address in Email → Email Accounts — see creating an account.
- For a forwarder, create one in Email → Forwarders pointing info@ to your real address — see forwarders.
- Route to several people by adding multiple forwarders for the same role address — each recipient gets a copy.
- Avoid using a catch-all for roles — explicit role addresses receive far less spam than a catch-all (see stopping spam).
- Add a shared signature so replies from the role address look consistent.
💡 Good to know
- Forwarders are perfect for small teams; a shared mailbox suits higher volume.
- Keep role addresses off public web pages as plain text to reduce spam.
- Set autoresponders on role addresses to acknowledge receipt during busy periods.
