How to Create an Email Forwarder in cPanel

Forwarders send mail arriving at one address on to another — perfect for role aliases like info@ or for routing a leaver's mail to a colleague.

Step-by-step

  1. Open Email → Forwarders in cPanel.
  2. Click Add Forwarder.
  3. Enter the address to forward — the username part and pick the domain.
  4. Enter the destination address. It can be another mailbox on your domain or any external address.
  5. Click Add Forwarder. Forwarding starts immediately.
  6. To forward one address to several people, simply add multiple forwarders for the same source address — each destination gets a copy.
  7. To keep a copy AND forward: create the address as a real mailbox first (create account), then add a forwarder for it — the mailbox keeps a copy and the destination receives one too.

💡 Good to know

  • A forwarder-only address (no mailbox) stores nothing on the server — handy for aliases.
  • Forwarding to external providers can occasionally be marked as spam by the destination; adding SPF/DKIM helps.
  • Remove forwarders you no longer need — they are easy to forget and keep delivering mail.
