How to Configure MX Records for Google Workspace

To use Google Workspace email on your domain while the website stays on EconomicalHost, you point the MX records to Google and set routing to remote.

Step-by-step

  1. Have your Google Workspace account ready with your domain verified in the Google Admin console.
  2. Open Domains → Zone Editor in cPanel and filter by MX for your domain.
  3. Delete the existing local MX record and add Google's MX record(s) exactly as Google specifies (current setups use a single smtp.google.com record at priority 1).
  4. Set Email Routing to Remote. Open Email → Email Routing, select the domain, and choose Remote Mail Exchanger — this is essential or website mail will misdeliver. See email routing.
  5. Update SPF to include Google: your TXT SPF record should include include:_spf.google.com — see SPF/DKIM.
  6. Wait for propagation and test by sending mail to a user — see DNS propagation.

💡 Good to know

  • Setting Email Routing to Remote is the step people forget — without it, contact-form mail can vanish.
  • EconomicalHost offers Google Workspace at competitive pricing — ask on 011-46563177.
  • Keep only Google's MX records once migrated; leftover local records cause confusion.
