How to Change Your cPanel Password
Change your cPanel password periodically, and immediately if you suspect it has been exposed. It takes under a minute.
Step-by-step
- Log in to cPanel (see how to log in).
- Open Password & Security. Click your account avatar (top-right) → Password & Security, or search "password" in the cPanel search box.
- Enter your current password in the Old Password field.
- Enter the new password twice. Use the Password Generator button for a strong random password, and the strength meter must show at least 65/100.
- Click Change your password now. You will be logged out and must log back in with the new password.
- Update anything that stored the old password — FTP clients and publishing tools that use the main cPanel login.
💡 Good to know
- A strong password: 12+ characters mixing upper/lowercase, numbers and symbols.
- This changes the cPanel login only — email account passwords are changed separately under Email Accounts.
- Use a password manager rather than reusing passwords across services.
