How to Check Resource Usage in cPanel

Your hosting plan includes set resources. Checking usage takes a minute and prevents surprises like bounced email or a slow site.

Step-by-step

  1. Glance at the right sidebar. The cPanel home page sidebar lists Disk Usage, Bandwidth, Email Accounts and more, each with current usage against your plan limit.
  2. Open Metrics → Bandwidth for month-by-month transfer graphs, split by HTTP, FTP and mail.
  3. Open Files → Disk Usage to see which folders consume space. The bar chart highlights the heaviest directories instantly.
  4. Check mail folders specifically — on EconomicalHost plans email space is working space, so mail should be downloaded via POP regularly (see freeing email space).
  5. Open Metrics → CPU and Concurrent Connection Usage (CloudLinux LVE) to see if your site ever hits CPU or process limits — spikes usually mean a heavy plugin or a traffic surge.
  6. Review Metrics → Errors for the latest web server errors if something on the site misbehaves.

💡 Good to know

  • Set the contact email so quota warnings reach you automatically at 80% and 98%.
  • Old backups left in the home directory are the most common disk hog — download them to your computer and delete from the server.
