How to Auto-Update Apps in Softaculous

Softaculous can update your apps automatically, closing security holes without you remembering to log in. Combine with automatic backups for safety.

Step-by-step

  1. Open Software → Softaculous Apps Installer → All Installations.
  2. Click the Edit (pencil) icon next to the app you want to manage.
  3. Set "Auto Upgrade" to enabled — you can choose major and minor, or minor (security) only, which is the safest default.
  4. Enable "Auto Upgrade WordPress Plugins" and "Themes" if shown, so the whole stack stays current.
  5. Turn on automatic backups before upgrade (Automated backups) so a snapshot is taken before each auto-update.
  6. Save settings. Softaculous now patches the app automatically and keeps a pre-update backup.

💡 Good to know

  • Minor/security-only auto-updates are very safe; major-version auto-updates are best tested on staging first.
  • Keep the "backup before upgrade" option on so you can always roll back.
  • Old automatic backups accumulate — prune them to protect your disk space.
