How to Verify Google Search Console

Google Search Console shows how your site performs in search. Verifying ownership takes a couple of minutes — by DNS record or by uploading a file.

Step-by-step

  1. Open Google Search Console and add your site as a property (Domain or URL-prefix).
  2. For Domain property (recommended), Google gives a TXT record — add it in cPanel Zone Editor with Name @ (see adding a TXT record).
  3. For URL-prefix property, you can instead download Google's HTML verification file and upload it to public_html via File Manager.
  4. Wait for DNS propagation if you used the TXT method (see propagation).
  5. Click Verify in Search Console.
  6. Submit your sitemap (e.g. yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml) so Google indexes your pages efficiently.

💡 Good to know

  • The Domain-property TXT method covers http, https, www and non-www in one go.
  • Keep the verification record/file in place — removing it un-verifies the site.
  • Search Console pairs well with AWStats for a full traffic picture.
