How to Monitor Your Website Uptime

You should never learn your site is down from a customer. A free external monitor checks your site every few minutes and alerts you instantly if it fails.

Step-by-step

  1. Choose a free uptime monitoring service (several reputable ones offer free plans with 5-minute checks).
  2. Add your site's URL as an HTTP(S) monitor.
  3. Set the check interval (e.g. every 5 minutes) and your alert email or phone.
  4. Add a keyword check (optional) — have it look for a word that appears on your homepage, so it catches "page loads but is broken" cases.
  5. Test the alert to confirm notifications reach you.
  6. If you get a downtime alert, check the site yourself, review error logs, and contact EconomicalHost support (011-46563177) if the server is unreachable.

💡 Good to know

  • External monitoring is essential — internal checks cannot tell you if the whole server is unreachable.
  • Brief blips can be network hiccups; sustained downtime needs investigation.
  • Keep the EconomicalHost support number handy for genuine outages.
