How to Recover Files from a Backup
Deleted the wrong file, or need a clean copy after a problem? Here is how to get files back from the different kinds of backup you may have.
Step-by-step
- From a zip/home-directory backup: upload the archive via File Manager, right-click → Extract into a temporary folder, then copy out only the files you need.
- From the cPanel Backup tool: Files → Backup → Restore a Home Directory Backup → choose the file → Restore.
- From a Softaculous backup: Softaculous → Backups/Restore → click Restore next to the snapshot (best for whole-app recovery).
- From a full account .tar.gz: these restore server-side — contact EconomicalHost support with the file ready.
- Recover a single database by importing its dump in phpMyAdmin — see import/export.
- After restoring, hard-refresh the site and test thoroughly — see clearing cache.
💡 Good to know
- Restore files and database from the same point in time to avoid mismatches on dynamic sites.
- Before overwriting a live site, back up its current state so nothing recent is lost.
- No backup of your own? EconomicalHost courtesy-backup restores are chargeable — keep your own backups.
