How to Block an IP Address in cPanel

IP Blocker stops specific addresses from reaching your site — useful against a persistent attacker or abusive bot. Use it carefully so you do not lock out real visitors.

Step-by-step

  1. Identify the offending IP from your logs first — see finding an IP in logs. Confirm it is not your own.
  2. Open Security → IP Blocker in cPanel.
  3. Enter the IP address (or a range / domain) in the box.
  4. Click Add. The address can no longer access your site and appears in the blocked list.
  5. Block a range only when sure — you can enter a CIDR range, but ranges risk catching innocent visitors.
  6. Remove a block any time by clicking Delete next to it in the list.

💡 Good to know

  • Double-check you are not blocking your own IP, your office, or search-engine crawlers.
  • For large-scale attacks, a CDN/firewall like Cloudflare is more effective than manual blocks.
  • Persistent, serious abuse should also be reported to EconomicalHost support.
